Antonio Penta is ICREA Research Professor at Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF) and a Research Professor at the Barcelona School of Economics (BSE).
Prior to joining the BSE research community, he was a tenured faculty member at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in the United States.
Professor Penta is an economic theorist specializing in Game Theory, Mechanism Design, Auctions, and Behavioral Economics. In his research, he combines theoretical, empirical, and experimental approaches to study how people’s intelligence and incentives interact in both market settings and individual choices.
His work has been published in journals such as the American Economic Review, Econometrica, Review of Economic Studies, Journal of Political Economy, and Management Science.
Professor Penta’s latest work on fundamental aspects of economic decision-making has been funded by two competitive grants from the European Research Council (ERC). His ERC Starting Grant project focused on strategic uncertainty, modeling and experimentally testing how individuals reason and coordinate. His current ERC Consolidator Grant project expands this foundation by taking the study of individual decision-making and noncognitive factors and developing the fundamental theoretical tools necessary to incorporate them rigorously into the established economic toolkit.
Professor Penta is currently Joint Managing Editor of the Review of Economic Studies, a member of the Editorial Boards of the American Economic Review and the Review of Economic Studies, and an Associate Editor of the Decisions in Economics and Finance. He is also an Associate Faculty member at Toulouse School of Economics (TSE) and a member of the TSE Digital Center.
He holds a Laurea in Economics from Bocconi University and a Master’s and PhD in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania.
