Joan-Maria Esteban is an Emeritus Research Professor of the Barcelona School of Economics (BSE). He is a former member of the Institute for Economic Analysis (IAE-CSIC), one of BSE’s academic units. He joined IAE when it was founded in 1989 and was its director from 1989 to 1991 and from 2001 to 2006.
In the past, he had been a Professor at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) and an Associate Professor at Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF).
Professor Esteban’s research interests are in the areas of Development Economics and Political Economy. His work has been published in the American Economic Review, American Political Science Review, Econometrica, Economics of Governance, Economics Letters, European Economic Review, International Economic Review, Journal of Economic Behaviour and Organization, Journal of Economic Theory, Journal of Economic Inequality, Journal of Peace Research, Regional Science and Urban Economics, Social Choice and Welfare, and Theory and Decision.
He has been Secretary General of the International Economic Association, President of the Society for the Study of Economic Inequality (ECINEQ), and President of the Spanish Economic Association.
Joan-Maria Esteban holds a PhD in Economics for the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom.
