BSE Winter Workshops 2012

The first BSE Winter Workshop took place from December 17-19, 2012 at the School’s Ciutadella Campus. The Winter Workshops consist of three full-day workshops, each organized by a duo of BSE Research Professors around a broad area of economic study.

“The Winter Workshops are organized so that we can get all of the faculty of the four academic units together by fields so they can discuss their research,” explains BSE Director Teresa Garcia-Milà. “We hold the workshops in mid-December so that faculty and PhD students working around the world who are returning to Barcelona for the holidays can also join us.”

In addition to academics from the four units, Winter Workshop presenters included researchers from Cambridge, ESADE, IESE, Universitat de Barcelona, and Warwick.

Among the doctoral students in the audience during the three days were several alumni of the BSE master programs. One of them was Patricia Gómez ’09, who is currently working on her PhD at MIT in the United States.

“I’m a PhD student studying abroad, and I came back home to Barcelona [for the winter break], so I decided to come over and see what papers are being presented here and what the professors from institutions related to Pompeu Fabra are looking at,” Ms. Gómez said.

Alumni who are currently in the GSE’s reference doctoral programs at UPF and UAB also attended the workshops to check out the latest research projects by their faculty and the visitors from other institutions.
