BSE Fact Sheet

  • BSE is a private foundation supported by public academic institutions (UPFUAB, IAE-CSIC, and CREI) and private institutions whose objective is to promote graduate education and research in Economics. The creation of graduate schools is a fundamental element in the development of research clusters in the social sciences.
  • BSE was founded in 2006 and offers official Master's degrees in Economics and Finance, Specialized Economic Analysis, and Data Science. All programs are taught in English, and around 85% of the student body is international.
  • The masters have a duration of nine months (September - June).
  • Two of the programs (Economics and Finance) existed for over 10 years as UPF programs and are now offered jointly and administered by BSE. The other BSE Master's programs are awarded jointly with UAB and UPF.
  • The first BSE Summer School was offered in 2007. The current summer school offer includes courses on topics such as Banking, Data Science, Development Economics, Digital Economy, Econometrics, Energy Economics, Finance, Labor Economics, and Macroeconomics. The courses draw hundreds of participants each year.
  • The Barcelona School of Economics has been ranked by RePEc among the Top 10 Economics institutions in the world and the Top 5 in Europe. BSE is the number one ranking Economics institution in Spain.
  • Every June, hundreds of economists participate in the BSE Summer Forum, a series of workshops covering most fields of economic research.
  • Over the years, BSE has hosted major international conferences such as the annual meeting of the European Association for Research in Industrial Economics (EARIE 2019) and the Congress of the European Economic Association and the Econometric Society European Meeting (EEA-ESEM 2009).
