A Dynamic Economic and Monetary Union (ADEMU) project kicks-off with conference at the University of Cambridge
Chairman of the BSE, Ramon Marimon, led the ADEMU kick-off conference, joined by researchers from leading research institutes, as well as leading economists, lawyers and members of the European Commission.
On October 8-9, 2015, the ADEMU project held its first conference at the University of Cambridge in order to mark the start of the project.
The two-day conference consisted of several presentations of each research lines of the project and two round tables about the Fiscal Union of EMU area and its situation in the aftermath of the Greek crisis. Joaquin Almunia, the Former Vice President of the European Commission, was invited as keynote speaker.
The ADEMU kick-off conference has helped to establish the foundation for the research project, which aims to identify issues for the future development of EMU and assist policymakers in making EMU dynamic and sustainable. The next 3 years of the project will involve further lectures and workshops to discuss the progression of the research.
Research focus on Europe
ADEMU brings together eight research groups from leading European institutions to jointly research on the overall monetary and fiscal structure of the EU and the euro area, and the mechanisms of fiscal policy coordination among member states.
After the European debt crisis and associated deep recession, there is a noticeable gap between policy-oriented analyses of the precise EU challenges, and the major developments in dynamic macroeconomic theory of the past three decades.
ADEMU aims to close this gap by conducting a rigorous investigation of risks to long-run sustainability of EMU and to develop detailed institutional proposals aimed at mitigating these risks.
