Guillem López-Casasnovas

Guillem López-Casasnovas is an Emeritus Affiliated Professor of the Barcelona School of Economics (BSE). He was a member of the Economics and Business Department of Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF).

Professor López-Casasnvoas was the founder of the Research Centre on Health and Economics (CRES) at UPF and was the director until 2005.

His main research interests include the measurement of the efficiency of the public sector, the changing role of the public sector in general (and in the health sector in particular), fiscal balances, the financing of local government treasuries, health economics, dependency and intergenerational balances.

He has been a member of the Directors Board of the Bank of Spain and an advisor to the Spanish Ministry of Health and Social Policy and the Catalan Health Ministry. From 2007-2013 he was President of the International Health Economics Association (IHEA). He has also served as an expert advisor to the World Health Organization (WHO) on health inequalities in the European Union.

Professor López-Casasnovas was Scientific Director of the BSE Master Program in Health Economics and Policy (2011-2014).

He holds a PhD in Public Economics from the University of York in the United Kingdom.
