Albert Banal Estañol (UPF and BSE) held teaching positions at the IFP School (Paris), City University of London, University of Cambridge, and University of Western Ontario (Canada) before joining the faculty at the UPF. He has also presented his research at numerous conferences for organizations such as the Royal Economic Society (Warwick), the European Economic Association (Budapest, Madrid, Venice), and INFORMS (Hong Kong).

Manel Baucells (UPF and BSE) has been the head of the IESE Business School’s Department of Managerial Decision Sciences since 2006. His teaching experience includes positions at the Fuqua School of Business (Duke University) and the Anderson School at UCLA. He earned his PhD in Management from UCLA in 1999.

Sekyu Choi (UAB and BSE) earned his PhD from the University of Pennsylvania in Spring 2009. His research interests are quantitative macroeconomics, family economics, and labor.

Susanna Esteban (UAB) works primarily on optimal pricing, self-control, temptation, durable goods, and secondary markets. Before joining the UAB she was a professor in the Department of Economics at the Universidad Carlos III.

Lídia Farré (IAE-CSIC and BSE) earned her PhD in Economics from the European University Institute in 2006. She went on to teach at the Universidad de Alicante (2006-2009). Her work focuses on issues of labor economics and applied microeconometrics. She is currently examining the economic implications of migration for receiving countries; discrimination against immigrants in the rental market; and cultural transmission and its implications for the persistence of inequality across generations.

Rosa Ferrer (UPF and BSE) received her PhD in Economics from Vanderbilt University in May 2009. Her research interests are industrial organization, law and economics, microeconometrics, economics of crime, and game theory.

Alex Grasas (UPF and BSE) earned his PhD in Industrial and Systems Engineering from the University of Florida in December 2008. His research interests include operations management, marketing interface, and product assortment planning.

Nezih Guner (UAB and BSE) received his PhD from the University of Rochester in 1999. He has taught economics at the Universidad Carlos III (2007-2009), Pennsylvania State University (1999-2006), and at Queen’s University (Kingston, Canada, 2000-2001). He was a visiting researcher at the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey in 1993-1994 and a member of Pennsylvania State University, Population Research Institute between 2003 and 2006. His main fields of interests are macroeconomics, economic demography, public economics and income distribution. Prof. Guner has been named a Research Professor of the BSE.

Stephen Hansen (UPF and BSE) earned his PhD from the London School of Economics in summer 2009. He works primarily on organizational economics, microeconomic theory, and contract theory.

Andrés Hervás-Drane (UPF and BSE) specializes in the economics of information technologies, with a focus on market impact and strategic implications for business. Prior to joining the UPF he was a Postdoctoral Fellow at Columbia Business School’s Institute for Tele-Information (2008-2009) and a Research Associate at Harvard Business School (2006-2008). He received his PhD from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona in 2009.

Gäel Le Mens (UPF and BSE) earned his PhD in Organizational Behavior from the Stanford Graduate School of Business. His research interests include behavioral decision making, organizational learning, strategy, and research methods.

Omar Licandro (IAE-CSIC and BSE) earned his PhD from the Université Catholique de Louvain in 1991. He was a senior researcher at FEDEA from 1994-2001 and a professor at the European University Institute in Italy from 2001-2009. He is Associate Editor of the Annales d'Economie et de Statistique and of Investigaciones Economicas, and was Associate Editor of the Spanish Economic Review. His teaching and research interests are mainly related to growth theory, (embodied) technical progress and vintage (human and physical) capital, and some related empirical topics such as the measurement of quality improvements in durable goods, the investment behavior of plants and the evaluation of car scrappage schemes.

Massimo Motta (ICREA-UPF and BSE) has been a professor of economics at the Università di Bologna since 2007 as well as Scientific Director of the BSE's MSc in Competition and Market Regulation. This year he has been named Dean of the BSE and BSE Research Professor. He is a research fellow at the Centre for Economic Policy Research, London, and of CESifo, Munich, as well as a member of the executive committee of the Association of Competition Economists, of the Economic Advisory Group on Competition Policy at the European Commission, and of the Expert Academic Panel of Ofcom, London.

Ander Pérez Orive (UPF and BSE) is an assistant professor at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra. In 2007-08 Professor Perez was a Deutsch Bank PhD Fellow and in 2007 he won the Banco Herrero Foundation Research Prize. His research interests include macroeconomics, monetary economics, and corporate finance.

Helena Perrone (UPF and BSE) received her PhD from the Toulouse School of Economics. She works primarily on applied macro and microeconomics, empirical industrial organization, and consumer behavior.

Giacomo Ponzetto (CREI and BSE) focuses his research on applied microeconomics, international trade, law and economics, and political economy. He comes to Barcelona from Harvard University, where he completed his PhD in June 2009.

Julien Prat (IAE-CSIC and BSE) has spent the past year as a visiting scholar in the economics department at New York University. After earning his PhD in Economics from the European University Institute in 2004, he joined the Institute for the Study of Labor (IZA) as a research affiliate. His fields of interest include labor economics, macroeconomics, and international trade.

Francesca Rondina (IAE-CSIC and BSE) received her PhD from the University of Wisconsin at Madison. Her research interests include macroeconomics, model uncertainty and learning in monetary policy, and time series econometrics.

Ana Sanz de Galdeano (UAB and BSE) received her PhD in Economics from the European University Institute in 2003. Her primary research interest is in labor economics and health economics, with a particular focus on applied microeconometrics and program evaluation. She has held visiting positions at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, the Research Department of the European Central Bank and CSEF (University of Salerno). She has been a research affiliate at IZA since 2005 and at FEDEA since 2007.
