Economist Paulina Beato named Chair of the BSE
The Board of Trustees of the Barcelona School of Economics has elected economist Paulina Beato as the institution's new president. She takes over the role from Ramon Marimon, who completed his second term after eight years as the head of the school. Joaquín Almunia remains in his position of Honorary President.

About Paulina Beato
Paulina Beato (PhD in Economics, University of Minnesota) is a professor of economic analysis, a commercial technician, and a state economist. She was the first female president of a Spanish public company and managed the creation of Red Electrica de Espana in 1985.
She has held leadership positions in the public sector, the private sector, and multilateral institutions throughout her professional career, including heading the committee in charge of designing Spain's National Energy Plan, the Banking Supervision Division of the International Monetary Fund, the Sustainable Development Sector of the Inter-American Development Bank, and the Ibero-American General Secretariat (SEGIB).
She has served on the boards of directors of companies such as Campsa, Red Electrica, Banesto, Solfocus, and Repsol. She is currently an advisor to TSB Banking Group and a member of the European Commission Expert Group on the design of electrical interconnections.
Paulina Beato has taught Economics at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Universitat Pompeu Fabra, and in the Master's programs at the Barcelona School of Economics.
