BSE Class of 2016 brings talented students from 56 countries
The ninth cohort of master's students fulfills the School's objective of attracting individuals with an international focus, outstanding academic backgrounds, and a diverse range of professional experiences.
The 2015-16 edition of the BSE master’s degrees welcomes 263 talented graduate students from 56 countries. The class is the largest to date and one of the most international, with 89% of students coming from outside Spain.
Countries with the most students in the programs are Italy (32), Spain (30), Germany (28), United States (19), and India (14).
Strong quantitative academic background
Most students (72%) have undergraduate degrees in Economics or Finance. Around 11% have academic backgrounds in quantitative subjects such as Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, and Physics. Others come from Business, Political Science, and a variety of other backgrounds.
Work experience
As in years past, there is a diverse mix of prior work experience among the students. Many students entered the master this year with one year or less of professional experience, coming directly from their undergraduate programs. Others had between and and five years of experience, while some have worked five years or more before returning to graduate study.
Master in Data Science enters its second year
Demand was strong and competition for seats even stronger for the second edition of the BSE Master in Data Science. The newest program on offer goes into 2015-16 with 30 students from 19 countries.
Enrollment in all seven programs increased compared to last year, and students in all programs will meet some very talented and interesting people as the fall term gets underway.

Welcoming the new students
Faculty, alumni, and staff participated in the Welcome Day reception for the Class of 2016 at Bellaterra Campus in September. BSE Director Teresa Garcia-Milà, members of the School’s staff, and Data Science alum Rishabh Agnihotri ’15 offered encouragement and advice to the new graduate students for the intense year ahead.
