BSE Research Network Organizes VI Trobada

Members of the Barcelona Economics community united in the Institut d'Estudis Catalans on October 24 for the VI Barcelona Economics Trobada. The event, organized by the GSE Research Network, is the main occasion for GSE affiliated professors and the Network's research affiliates to meet and share their research early in the academic year in a pleasant, informal setting.

The Trobada was divided into three sessions: the first, chaired by Marta Reynal-Querol (UPF), featured talks by Fernando Broner (CREI and UPF), who shared his paper "Rethinking the Effects of Financial Liberalization" (joint with J.Ventura); Alessandra Bonfiglioli (IAE-CSIC), who shared her paper "Growth, Selection and Appropriate Contracts" (joint with Gino Gancia); and Patricia Funk (UPF), who shared her paper "Gender Gaps in Policy Making: Evidence from the most Direct Democratic Country in the World".

After a coffee break, a second session was chaired by Enriqueta Aragonés (IAE-CSIC), and featured the work of three new additions to the BSE Affiliated Professors: Stefano Trento (UAB), who shared his paper "Dynamic Incentives in Sequential Innovation"(joint with G. Llanes); Ana Rute Cardoso (IAE-CSIC), who shared her paper "Comparing the early Research Performance of PhD Graduates in Labor Economics in Europe and the USA" (joint with Pl Guimaraes and K.F. Zimmermann); and Gabrielle Fack (UPF), who shared her paper "Are Fiscal Incentives towards Charitable Giving Efficient? Evidence from France" (joint with C. Landais).

At the conclusion of the second session, Professor Salvador Barberà, Director of the BSE Research Network, took the opportunity to share news from the Network. Andreu Mas-Colell, Chairman of the GSE, and Eduard Vallory, Director-General of the School, discussed the future and current initiatives of the Network. Following this, attendees of the Trobada had a light lunch in the atrium of the building.

The day concluded with a roundtable discussion on the Current Financial Crisis, chaired by Jordi Caballé (UAB). The participants, Xavier Freixas (UPF), Albert Marcet (IAE-CSIC), Jordi Galí (CREI, UPF) and José García-Montalvo (UPF) shared their insights on the current financial crisis with the audience.
