22nd Annual EEA/ESEM Joint European Meeting Draws BSE Affiliated Professors
The joint European meeting of the European Economic Association and the Econometric Society (EEA/ESEM) was held in Budapest, Hungary, from August 27 – 31, 2007. The meeting featured the work of leading scholars in economics, including many professors and researchers from the supporting institutions of the Barcelona School of Economics.
This year’s European meeting featured 43 papers (co) authored by members of the supporting academic institutions. All four of the school’s supporting academic institutions were represented: Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF), Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UFAE UAB), the Institute of Economic Analysis (IAE-CSIC) and the Center for Research in International Economics (CREI).
Additionally, five of the 45 invited papers of the conference (of which 20 came from US institutions and 25 came from European institutions) were authored by professors and researchers from BSE supporting institutions - Joachim Voth, Fernando Broner, Jaume Ventura, Karl Schlag, Clara Ponsati, and Enriqueta Aragones.
One of the 13 BSE Affiliated Professors who presented research at the conference, Paula Bustos (CREI), was been announced as one of the 2007 recipients of the four prizes for best paper from a young economist. Profesor Bustos is the third member of the BSE community to receive this honor: in preceding years BSE Affiliated Professor Antoni Calvò-Armengol (UAB) and Gino Gancia (CREI) also received the award.
Andreu Mas-Colell, Chairman of the BSE and past president of both the European Economic Association (2006) and the Econometric Society (1993), chaired the EEA Presidential Address to be given by Guido Tabellini (IGIER, Bocconi University) on August 30.
Meanwhile, Salvador Barberà, Director of the Msc in the Economics of Science and Innovation, chaired the sessions titled “Political Economy” and “Social Choice”, and David Perez-Castrillo, Deputy Director of the master program, was chair of the session titled “Environment”. Both professors also presented their research.
The European Economic Association and the Econometric Society are international scientific organizations dedicated to the promotion and dissemination of contemporary economic research, including theoretical, empirical, and policy-relevant contributions. Their 2006 European meeting was held at Wien University in Vienna, Austria, and their 2008 European meeting will take place at Bocconi University in Milan, Italy.
