Course overview

Addressing the market power of large digital platforms has become one of the most important challenges in competition policy. This Executive Education course examines the issue from both legal and economic perspectives, drawing on the expertise of leading practitioners and academics with experience in competition authorities, private practice, courts, and academia.

The course will analyse the unique challenges that digital markets create for competition law enforcement. It will examine the key practices employed by major technology firms and discuss EU case-law and some of the most significant abuse of dominance and monopolization cases from the European Union, the United States, and other jurisdictions.

Participants will also explore the rationale behind the EU’s Digital Markets Act (DMA), its objectives, and the latest developments in its implementation and enforcement. Particular attention will be given to the first enforcement actions taken under the DMA and their implications for digital markets.

As the regulatory framework for digital markets continues to evolve, the course provides a timely opportunity to examine the European Commission’s forthcoming Guidelines on the enforcement of Article 102 exclusionary abuses and their potential implications.

Combining legal analysis, economic reasoning, and real-world case studies, the course provides a comprehensive overview of the evolving regulatory landscape and enforcement for digital markets.
