General information for traveling to EARIE 2019 in Barcelona:

Language

The official conference language is English. No translation/interpretation services will be offered.

Emergency

In emergency situations, you can contact the local police, ambulance service, fire department and other emergency services by calling 112, free of charge.

Medical services

Should you need to see a doctor or a dentist, we recommend contacting your hotel’s reception desk who will direct you to the medical professionals assigned to the hotel. If immediate medical attention is required, call the emergency services at 112. Emergency medical services (including transportation by ambulance) are not free for and you will be billed for any services rendered.

Only holders of the European Health Insurance Card have free access to medically necessary, state-provided healthcare during a temporary stay in Spain.

Vaccination

Vaccination certificates are usually not needed when travelling to Spain, but please check with your local embassy as requirements may change.

Electricity

In Spain the standard voltage is 230 V and the frequency is 50 Hz. You can use your electric appliances in Spain, if the standard voltage in your country is in between 220 - 240 V

ATMs & credit cards

ATMs are widely available throughout Barcelona. Credit Cards are accepted almost everywhere.

Tipping

If you would like to give a tip in restaurants and cafes, a 5-10% tip is most common to give.

Visa Requirements

Participants are advised to make their own arrangements to enter Spain. Click here to check which are the requirements to visit Spain.
The Local Organising Committee recommends that all participants check the websites of the Spanish embassy in their country prior to travel to ensure that they have all the necessary paperwork for travel.
Neither the Local Organising Committee nor EARIE can be held responsible for and cannot refund any registration fees for participants who fail to obtain their visas prior to travel.

Visa application support letters

If you need a Visa Application Support Letter, the conference organisers can provide this letter once:

(a) you have registered for the conference and
(b) your registration fee has been received.

If you require a visa, please apply for it within a reasonable period of time (minimum three months ahead of the planned travel).
Once you meet these two requirements, please e-mail the conference organisers, earie2019@bse.eu with your full name, and the address of the concerning embassy (consulate) where you are going to apply for visa. Let us also know if you are a presenter as well. Your request will be processed as soon as possible, and the conference invitation letter (scan) for your visa application will be e-mailed to you.

Unfortunately, we cannot send out hard copies of Visa Application Support Letters by post, courier, or other mail services.

Getting to Barcelona

By plane

Barcelona airport, with several terminals, is located 16 kilometers south of the city and is also known as Barcelona-El Prat. Barcelona can also be reached by transport links from other regional airports, including Girona, Reus and Lleida-Alguaire.

By train

Barcelona has direct railway links with several important cities, including Paris, Lyon, Marseille, Toulouse, and the high-speed train runs to Madrid, southern and eastern Spain. The city's major railway stations and metropolitan rail network ensure you can travel to Barcelona and anywhere by train without any difficulties.

By car

Barcelona is well connected and has a large amount of car parks. The motorway and road network will take you anywhere in the city by car although it is worth bearing in mind that traffic can be heavy at the main entry points of Barcelona.

Barcelona and its metropolitan area have a wide range of public transport and sightseeing transport options. There are different ticket types so that you can get to where you want to go in Barcelona easily and conveniently.

ACCOMMODATION


There are many accommodation options in Barcelona suitable for different budgets and preferences. Participants should make their own bookings, either directly on hotel websites, or through accommodation booking websites. Here you will see some nearby hotels.

The travel agency ABC4 Events has agreed on a special fare for EARIE 2019 in a few selected hotels - This offer is no longer available.

The rooms booked with a special price are limited. In case you would like additional services or the proposed accommodation do not fit your needs, the travel agency can help.

The conference welcome reception and dinner will be held in venues easily accessible from the venue (Ciutadella Campus) and the city center. Transportation from the venue will be organized for the Conference Dinner on August 31, 2019.
