Mihai Croicu

Mihai Croicu is a Post-doctoral Researcher at IAE-CSIC and the Barcelona School of Economics (BSE).

He received his PhD in Peace and Conflict Research from Uppsala University (2025). His dissertation, “Forecasting battles: New machine learning methods for predicting armed conflict” explores the role of advanced machine learning methods and disaggregated data in improving the ability to forecast armed conflict dynamics.

Mihai previously worked in technical roles – systems programmer and architect for the Violence Early Warning Project (ViEWS) and the Uppsala Conflict Data Program (UCDP).

His work is published in journals such as Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS), Journal of Politics, Journal of Peace Research, Political Research Quarterly, Research and Politics, and International Interactions.
