About our speaker
Justin Yifu Lin is the Honorary Dean and Professor at the National School of Development (NSD) in Peking University as well as member of the BSE Scientific Council. Professor Lin got his PhD from the University of Chicago in 1986. He was the founder of the China Center for Economic Research which later became the National School of Development. Professor Lin’s research area covers agricultural economics, development economics, and economic reforms in China.
Between 2008 and 2012, he served as the Chief Economist and Senior Vice President of the World Bank. He is the writer of several articles and books on Chinese economy, including his most recent books Against the Consensus and Demystifying the Chinese Economy, both published by the Cambridge University Press.
Lin was was the first Chinese student after the Cultural Revolution to return to China with an American doctorate in economics, and in a 2010 New Yorker article on Lin, Joseph Stiglitz describes him as "one of the people who brought market economics into China."
