Kei Kawai is a professor of economics at the University of Tokyo where he has taught since 2023. Previous appointments include assistant professor at NYU Stern and University of California at Berkeley. He has written a number of papers on detecting collusion in procurement auctions. His papers on detection of collusion have been awarded the Jerry S. Cohen Memorial Fund Writing Award for the best antitrust article of 2022 on collusion in auctions and the 2024 ACE best paper award for antitrust. He received his Ph.D from Northwestern University in 2011.
