Julian Hidalgo is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics and Business at Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF) and an Affiliated Professor of the Barcelona School of Economics (BSE). Previously, he was a Postdoctoral Fellow at Harvard Business School.

Professor Hidalgo’s research fields of interest are Empirical Industrial Organization and Applied Microeconomics.

His research focuses on the empirical study of changes in market structure and strategic supply-side responses, with special emphasis on the role of advertising. It also covers individual and firm decision-making in telecommunication markets, where Hidalgo has analyzed the digital gap and evaluated alternative policies in developing economies.

Hidalgo holds a PhD in Economics from KU Leuven in Belgium.
