Joachim Voth appointed BSE Research Professor
Professor Joachim Voth (ICREA-UPF and BSE) has been named BSE Research Professors by the School's leadership.
The distinction of BSE Research Professor is a joint appointment between the BSE and one of the School's academic units, and was created in 2009 to increase the critical mass of top scientists at the BSE. Research Professorships are funded by the School's research endowment, which is dedicated exclusively to supporting these appointments. With this new appointment, there are now 12 BSE Research Professors (full list at right).
In addition to producing award-winning research that includes an Advanced Grant from the European Research Council (ERC), Prof. Voth is a member of the steering committee that directs the BSE Master in International Trade, Finance and Development and teaches in the master programs and the GPEFM doctoral program organized by UPF and BSE.
About Joachim Voth
Hans-Joachim Voth (PhD, Oxford, 1996) is ICREA Research Professor of Economics at UPF. Following a stint as a faculty member in Cambridge, UK, he worked as a Senior Associate at McKinsey. He has held visiting positions at Stanford, MIT, NYU, and Princeton. Professor Voth has acted as an advisor to the German Stock Exchange.
His area of specialization is financial and economic history, with an emphasis on the history of speculative bubbles and stock markets, as well as economic growth over the long run.
In 2008, Prof. Voth was awarded an ERC Advanced Grant for the project "Securities in Times of Insecurity: Asset Returns and Holdings during Political, Social and Economic Crises in Europe, 1900-1950."
Professor Voth is currently on leave at the University of Zurich.
