ERC Advanced Grants 2019 awarded to Jan Eeckhout and Jordi Galí

Professors Jan Eeckhout (UPF and BSE) and Jordi Galí (CREI, UPF and BSE) have both been awarded Advanced Grants in the 2019 call from the European Research Council (ERC).

The ERC awards Advanced Grants to exceptional established research leaders so that they can pursue ground-breaking, high-risk projects that open new directions in their research fields. Project proposals are evaluated by selected international peer reviewers, and scientific excellence is the sole criterion. The 2019 call received 1,881 applications and awarded 185 grants to senior research leaders in 20 different European countries.

Professor Eeckhout's project will explore Market Power and Secular Macroeconomic Trends. Professor Galí will conduct research on Heterogeneity, Monetary Policy and Economic Fluctuations.

This is the third ERC Grant for both researchers. Professor Eeckhout received his first Advanced Grant in 2013 and a Starting Grant in 2007. Professor Galí received two previous Advanced Grants, one in 2008 and one in 2013.

Including the new Advanced Grants for Eeckhout and Galí, a total of 28 ERC grants have been awarded to current BSE Affiliated Professors.
