Data Science Winter School draws academics and professionals from diverse sectors
The second edition of the BSE Data Science Winter School took place on January 10-12, 2020. During the 12 hours of the course, participants got a Python introduction to set a minimum programming baseline; heard lectures about regression and classification models, with a mixture of theory and coding examples; and created a practical prediction project with different solution tracks, depending on each student's skills.
The course is organized by the BSE Data Science Center and taught by the Center's director, Omiros Papaspiliopoulos (ICREA-UPF and BSE) and members of the Center's team Joan Verdú and Nandan Rao.
Knowledge applicable across sectors
The 32 course participants included data scientists, economists, statisticians, and analysts from academia as well as professional sectors such as banking and online gaming. There were Master's and PhD students as well as experienced researchers and professionals. Some of the companies and universities represented were:

BSE Data Science Center: leading Data Science in Barcelona
Barcelona has become a hub for Analytics and Data Science within Europe, with many major companies establishing or relocating their Analytics teams in the city. The Barcelona School of Economics launched the BSE Data Science Center in 2016 to boost a wide range of activities in this scientific area, consolidating its role as the academic point of reference related to this emerging field, by training many highly talented people, as well as promoting frontier research in Data Science.
