BSE hosts 29th "Jornadas de Economía Industrial"

More than 80 papers were presented by members of academic institutions across Europe, North America, and Asia. Plenary sessions featured talks by Victor Aguirregabiria (University of Toronto) and Massimo Motta (European Commission).

The Barcelona School of Economics hosted the 29th edition of the "Jornadas de Economía Industrial" on September 4-5, 2014. The "Jornadas" event is the main gathering of industrial economists in Spain, drawing researchers from institutions around the country such as Bank of Spain, Instituto de Empresa, CEMFI, and Universidad Carlos III, as well as significant international participation by members of prestigious academic institutions such as the London School of Economics, National Taipei University, Toulouse School of Economics, Yale University, and ZEW Mannheim.

This year, more than 80 papers were presented on topics including Internet Economics, Experiments in Industrial Organization, and Regulation, among many others.

Plenary sessions by experts on competition economics

In addition to the regular conference sessions, two plenary sessions featured renowned experts Victor Aguirregabiria (University of Toronto) who spoke on "Issues and Some Recent Developments in the Empirical Analysis of Dynamics Games of Oligopoly Competition" and Massimo Motta (European Commission Chief Competition Economist, ICREA-UPF and BSE), who addressed the topic of "Price-cost tests and rebates."

Roundtable on the Electricity Market

The conference closed with a panel discussion on the electricity market with Tomás Gómez San Román, Professor of Electrical Engineering at Universidad Pontificia Comillas and former commissioner at the Spanish Energy Commission (CNE); and Xavier Vives, Professor of Economics and Finance at IESE Business School. The roundtable was moderated by Carlos Pascual Pons, Deputy Director of Studies and Reports, CNMC.
