We are saddened by the loss of Edward C. Prescott, a celebrated economist and one of the longest-serving members of the Barcelona School of Economics Scientific Council. Professor Prescott passed away on November 6, 2022 at the age of 81.
Among the many honors and awards recognizing his contributions to Economics throughout his distinguished career, Professor Prescott was the recipient of the 2004 Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel, sharing the award with Finn E. Kydland "for their contributions to dynamic macroeconomics: the time consistency of economic policy and the driving forces behind business cycles."
Professor Ramon Marimon (UPF and BSE) is a former Chair of the BSE Board of Trustees and was a close collaborator of Prescott's. "His was a quest for beauty at the core of dynamic macroeconomics. Ed’s approach and commitment led to path-breaking contributions, to widen the minds of his students and colleagues, and to set the right priorities in institutions he belonged to, such as the Society for Economic Dynamics (SED) and the Barcelona School of Economics."
Professor Prescott was an active participant in BSE Scientific Council meetings and generously shared his knowledge and time with the entire Barcelona School of Economics community through events such as the BSE Lecture Series, our 10th Anniversary celebration and special roundtable events.
We are extremely grateful for all the ways that Ed helped BSE improve as an institution over the years. Our deepest condolences to his family and friends.
