Fourth BSE Summer Forum draws over 700 participants from 30 countries
Researchers from leading universities and economists from central banks participated in 26 workshops covering all fields of economic research
From June 6-21, 2016 the Barcelona School of Economics organized the fourth annual Summer Forum in Barcelona. Over 700 economists from more than 30 different countries came together to debate the present and the future of frontier economic research.
Summer Forum participants included leading researchers in Economics from universities such as Yale, the University of Minnesota, Columbia, Bocconi, the Paris School of Economics, Harvard, MIT, the London School of Economics, and many others. The Forum also attracted economists from several central banks in Europe from countries such as Spain, Italy, Germany, and England, as well as the European Central Bank, the United States Federal Reserve, and the International Monetary Fund.
From the BSE community, participants included many affiliated professors from the School's academic units (UPF, UAB, CREI, and IAE-CSIC). The scientific organizers of this year's Summer Forum were Professor Inés Macho-Stadler (UAB and BSE) and Professor Jaume Ventura (CREI, UPF and BSE). Doctoral students from GPEFM and IDEA attended the workshops, and presenters included several alumni from the BSE master's programs who are now working as researchers and economists themselves.
Over 300 papers presented in 26 workshops
Each workshop was an opportunity for researchers in a specific area from different institutions around the world to meet face-to-face and share their latest work and ideas. Some of the workshops included in this year's Summer Forum, such as "Financial Intermediation and Risk," built on past editions covering the same topic. Others, such as "Aging and Macroeconomics," brought focus to new areas of economic research.
